Sorry Pete in Spain but you need to take a new look at things. Data logging will show you many things that the stopwatch can never do.
True that we are only interested in the ultimate lap time however how the laptime was achieved can shed light on many factors that can be analysed by someone with the required knowledge of data analasys. Done correctly the data analist/engineer can find the expensive final tenths that no amount of testing will reveal. Remember testing can be more expensive than racing so it makes sense to use all of the information available from every lap plus you are removing the element of human error when recalling accurately the way the kart performed buring any given lap.
Look at it logically if data logging is pointless why do ALL race teams use data in F1 and 99% of teams in lower formulas rely on data.
