Ian for all of your good and accurate advice you forgot to tell luccadog to ensure both rod ends are evenly fully screwed into the track rod prior to fitting to the kart to avoid the possibility of one rod end being almost fully out when ajusted.
Oh and yes I do know how to measure the tracking with a tape or string but you seem to have forgotton the old std tool from when I started racing, an old telescopic car ariel, perfect for the job!
The bonus with the lazers is you can also set your camber and check caster all at the same time and in a few seconds, an important feature when you are between heats with no time to spare with bent steering.
So in balance a modest investment on some kit will eventually pay dividends if you are a regular racer.
