Traxtar has got a pretty good point. If I get a chance I'll do some torsional stiffness comparisons between tight and loose sidepod bars, and similar with the bumpers. The bumpers are on the wrong bit of the chassis to have a profound effect, as they are outside the wheelbase. I'll have to have a think about sidepods, but they are a torsionally "non-stiff" member bolted to a torsionally "very stiff" member, so they probably don't make a huge contribution when they are tight. So loosening them off probably doesn't change much. Changing track width and tyre pressures has had much more noticeable effects for me so far, even with very small changes.
Seat stays on "VG" seats has some irony attached. Have I really paid over the odds for a soft seat that I'm about to try to use to stiffen the kart up?
