My helmet was deemed illegal at a meeting and it had the BS6658 1985 Type A blue sticker.

I have purchased the new Arai SK6 which the standard is K2005. Perfectly legal and should be legal for the next 10 years. Its a great helmet for Karting but cannot be used for cars. Quite expensive though !

Other than this I would go for something with the Snell SA2005 sticker. This should be legal for the next 10 years. SA2000's have been extended to be legal till 2014.

As for suits look at the code on the back of the collar. I have a sparco suit which said it expired at the end of 2009. However the scruiteneers at my last meeting researhed this and found some sparco suits to still be leagal which included mine. If you have an old sparco suit, it is worth checking with the MSA even if the date has expired.
