Personally, I'd avoid pointing etc. In fact, for a novice, I'd advise against trying to let people through. So long as you're not moving all over the circuit, blocking etc, the experienced drivers will get through pretty quickly.
As you gain confidence, ability and speed these drivers will find it harder to pass. Remembering that it's practice/testing and you'll each be working to your own programme, you'll want to let them through as painlessly as possible. The best way to achieve this is to turn in late going into the corner and run wide. They'll be up the inside and gone in the blink of an eye.
I'd never recommend moving over to let people through. It's always possible that you've not noticed the second/third/fourth kart looking to pass coming through on the other side.
