Some/Most engine builders should let you "try before you buy" - ie have an engine for a week-end then you can give it back and pay the rental if you don't like or keep it and buy it if you do.

Obviously best to agree prices BEFORE you try the engine!

However, if you only want an engine for S1 - ie 6 or 7 rounds - renting may prove cheaper than buying anyway.
