What about engine mounts ? Aren't they similarly close to the track and don't they come off too ? ... and when they do, they're often in bits, usually pretty sharp. Over the years I've been hit by all sorts of things that have come off karts ahead of me... everything from exhaust springs to a complete stub axle and wheel assembly !
I'm not denouncing the need to limit the dangers in racing, we should always endeavour to do that. If there's a specific issue with the type of chassis protector that we were mandated to use last year, then surely its not beyond the capabilities and intelligence of those involved in our industry to develop a safer one ? The imposition of a ban on chassis protectors is a completely illogical way forward with this issue.
