There was a incident at the SW champs on sunday where a 177 competitor running the small 180 mm disc went into the barrier very hard because of brake disc failure.
if you look on the dunks website forum at http://www.dunkeswell.com/messageboard.php you will see the thread.
The general advice is to check your disc very carefully for cracking around the disc attachment holes and also the disc surface for excessive grooves. If you are concerned then I would suggest that you change the disc, its cheaper than a new chassis and a lot less painful if it all goes wrong.
There is also the question of whether a 177 competitor should use the 180 mm or the 206 mm disc. I know of one team that only uses the small disc for minimax and juniors, seniors and heavies use the 206mm.
One other thing to consider is what would you do if your brakes fail. Think about it and have a plan, even if the plan is just to bend down and kiss your a$$ goodbye. Pilots use emergency drills to cover these types of emergency, they know the immediate actions to take which will keep them flying until they can sort out the problem. Karting isn't any different: What would you do if you have :
stuck throttle Brake failure steering failure
worth thinking about?
