I totally agree!!!
Karting has become totally elitist! If not in the amount needed to "go racing competitively" (£1200 on a club meeting springs to mind, detective!!!), then if a driver turning up with car and trailer starts hassling the top runners, they bin them off!!!! For a sport that should be an entry level to motorsport, I hate what this has become!!
I remember buying my first kart (Wright Mini 1992 with Comer engine) in 1998 and winning races at Nuthampstead and running easily top ten at Kimbolton, and I thought that the top guys were spending a fortune then!! Thats nothing compared to the astronomical amounts some people are racing on Cadet and Junior racing!!!
I recently bought a 2002 F1 Chassis for 250 Nat and two TM MX250 engines for £1000!!!! Not saying that it should be race winning, but thats how it should be!!! Not that amount for an "average" Rotax engine!!!
