Isn't the clutch supposed to employ friction to work? If the above claim is true and the substance were used on the drum (IMHO) that kart wouldn't be getting off the grid, let alone be faster on the track?!?

In any case, wouldn't it be better to just test for yourself before inviting people to compromise themselves (not that they would anyway) by admitting they are trying to find ways of being faster?

At the Welsh Champs last weekend the approach was very simple, fair and effective (IMHO of course): Prior to the 1st timed qually 2-3 classes were asked to the dummy grid with clutch in hand, followed randomly by drivers being subjected to the RPM test on the ground, post race.

I thought the meeting was going to be marred by the clutch saga and we'll be forever fitting/stripping clutches on the grid, but in the end the scrutineering team's strategy proved fair, unobtrusive and well though-out. Don't know if they caught any cheats but we certainly knew the officials were on top of the problem.
