if you don't have a piston stop you can use a piece of starter rope or shoe lace threaded down the sparkplug hole then pull the piston up to the top and this will stop the engine turning over. remember the nut is LEFT HAND THREAD. a word of warning when using the the impact gun method is that it is possible to spin the crankshaft and twist the tabs on the pull start of the engine so the pull start won't work. (something i once did when i was in a rush with a Stihl chainsaw a few years ago)
