John I agree, but the engines are not supplied with gear oil in them from the factory but it is needed ?
Page 8 of the Rotax manual clearly states that greasing of the bearing is required.
Ste I can't answer your question other than to simply say that so far it is CLEAR that the particular type of grease I have been using (NLG12) is not suitable and that it MAY result in breaking down within the drum to a finer substance due to heat exposure (even though the tub clearly states from -2 up to 285 degrees ? )
This thread is simply to relay the FACTS as they are and if it makes you guys (Rotax) aware that there is a POSSIBLE potential post scrutineering problem then that has to be a positive out of this negative ?
For anyone going testing this week (Whilton etc) I would gladly pay for you to purchase some of this grease (Valvoline, Total NLG12), try some on the bearing, go out for say 10 laps, come in and inspect the drum and place your findings here ?
I'd even go a step further.....I will give up a day to come to say, Whilton (wednesday) and use my kit for your driver and do the same test there ?
