Ask yourself this, if that driver finished last and had caused no trouble all day long and didn't affect your sons result would you have complained to the scrutineer after the final?
It sounds to me like this guy has turned up on an older kart that was perfectly safe to race in December and beat all your shiny new outfits and effectively proved that you don't need one to win. The scrutineer was doing the correct thing IMO, he was going to tell him off and tell him not to do it again which was the correct thing to do, it was the sporting thing to do as the rules he broke were new rules (apart from the exhaust) and there should be some lenience on the first race meeting when rules like these are applied. Remember his kart was perfectly ok to race in December it was perfectly safe then.
The scrutineer was using common sense, you I feel were not and it was unsporting and not fair of you to threaten the scrutineer in that way.
What you have done is what is ruining karting, karting is not Formula 1 so stop treating it like Formula 1 and try and enjoy it and except losing like a man.
I think the fact you have come on here and asked the question shows that you feel you have done the wrong thing. Just learn from it and remember that it's a fun sporting event not Formula 1 and yes it's competitive but try and take it less seriously and enjoy it.
My view - you were right to tell the scrutineer, you were wrong to threaten him. Common sense should have been used.
Chris.
