Being newbies at this I need some advice please. My boy is only getting to around 10,000 rpm in his Minimax on the straights at Rye. Looking at the gearing I saw he was running 13 teeth on the front, 82 on the rear. Everything I have read on this site suggests he should be running 12/78 or 80. I bough the relevant sprockets from the shop yesterday at Rye but didn’t have to tool to remove the front (nor did the shop or any other dads), so a couple of the dads advised I keep the 13 and fit an 88 on the rear. The weird thing is it has made very little difference to his laps. He is now achieving around 10,500 at the ends of the straights, but his top speed is down to around 48/49 (previously 50/51) and he doesn’t appear to be any faster out of the corners. He did manage to beat his previous best lap by just over a second but, looking on the GPS data (yes, a bit extravagant for a beginner I know!!!) that was more to do with lines that outright pace. I read on this site we should expect to be seeing around 12,500 at the end of the straight under optimum settings. Could this be something to do with the carb jetting? Any other ideas?
