We switched to X30 from Rotax so can state that X30 is MORE expensive or at least no cheaper as advertised.
We bought an engine of the shelf, and to be fair we were very competitive at the top level, but we were told be top engine builder that we were fortunate. I personally don't like the unsealed state of the series because unless the scrutinisers are opening and checking the engines at every race you don't know what people are doing back in the awning. Our engine was opened at more or less every race at S1 but placed privateers weren't. We were never found to have breeched anything yet privateers when checked often were?
My main issue with Rotax was the tyres, but we found there to be massive variance in tyres for X30 and whilst you could probably general test better on them than Rotax you still need the same number of sets on a weekend as you did in Rotax.
They are temperamental compared to Rotax, the engine up keep is more regular and more expensive than Rotax and the variances in performance are already there, although not as much as Rotax.
