Knighty, unless you have a particular reason for wanting to go minimax, I'd be tempted to hold back and see how the evo, mini x, landscape pans out.
We switched to junior this year and went jtkm because I felt I couldn't put money into max, only to risk it die when the mini x came out. Plus, as per another current thread, minimax has seen the dominance of the big teams, with talk of needing big engines to compete. Although with the rise of x30, many team max engines seem to be coming onto the open market. X30 seems to be the new big team focus!
If lack of tkm grids had ruled out that option for you, look again. Grids are returning, where they've been missing for several years. Last weekend Shenni had a full jtkm grid, fulbeck has grids this weekend, there's talk of grids at pfi and Whilton. The class is back on the up!
From what I've see of your posts, the class would suit your tinkering, privateer ethos and because of the destructor system and the ability to have the engines bored out to senior spec, if it suits you, you can stay right through to adult karting!
