The first picture is a cheapo armature and you can see the detached wires at the commutator (copper) end. There are actually six wires detached and it would have run lumpier than your Granny's gravy.

The second picture is a genuine Rotax (Mitsuba)armature. This one survived the rear oilite bearing disintegrating and shows where it contacted the casework and even turned blue from the heat generated, but will be fine once I make a new bearing.

You will see that the real one has epoxy resin around the commutator connections which supports the wire when the armature is spinning at a very fast rate.

The fake has no support and the wire is very brittle due to being a poor grade.

The genuine one has been cleaned up but the cheapo has not, which shows just how quick it failed.
