Just had my first test day in senior rotax heavies NKR at Fulbeck.
Never been in any kart faster than a single Honda engine corporate.
Comfortably Numb, my comments are the same; Both my lads raced Cadet, Minimax and Junior max in recent years. many a time I have given them grief over their driving, go faster, brake later, do this do that on certain parts of the track, why don't you see my signals in a race etc etc.
After my few sessions - I think all dad's from lad and dad team should spend a few sessions in a proper race kart, which would really give them an insight into what is involved driving one of these things round a track and how far they have to go to be competitive.
I can't believe I made it round the track in one piece and the first thing I said to my lad was - great respect for what you have done in karting and how well you can drive one of these things.
My elder lad did well at MSA club level, we won a championship and he broke the lap record at one point. I have even more respect for him now!
To the dad's out there, get in a kart and have a go, it will be a real eye opener. It's tough but you'll love it. Easy entry and cheap at IKR.
For once there is a lot my lad can teach me now, I'm sticking with it and having a good go at IKR before I decide if I'm as useless at driving as I might look. Looking forward to it!!
