.......c'mon guys .. you are asking a 'newbie' to perform a critcal operation with some conflicting advice here

YOU must be very careful to not spin the crank whilst doing this ..... it is in 2 parts and will 'spin' out of sync very easily if you do not restrain the engine sprocket during this procedure and the only sure way of doing that is with an engine sprocket holder as pointed to in the link by Paul M
I am not saying the other methods as described won't work, but the risks are increased if you don't use the proper tool .......... not too sure of your experience so my advice would be to get someone who knows what they are doing to assist you the first time you do this ... after that you will see how easy it can be done and will not look back
