Personally I would like to know who is doing this as it's cheating pure and simple. Personally I would like to see more checks at post race scrutineering. The difficulty is what to check. The most I have seenchecked at club level is carb restrictions and dome and squish angle checks, in fact at the first round of a tkm championship after the finals the carb restrictions weren't even checked and they just removed the heads to check dome and squish angle.
Talk have a fiche to work to and you can only get as close to that fiche with gaskets and minimum machining to the cylinder head and barrel. You will never get to the exact fiche measurement this way. Sorry dean this has nothing to do with talk and their fiche, they have always been very clear on what you can and can't do. If a builder is maximising the fiche by machining pistons and removing metal from ports then he should be prosecuteprosecuted and named. I would love talk to allow machining to get closer to the fiche and had I decided to chance it with the limited scrutineering checks I could. However in the interests of sportsmanship and fair play I don't. Same as I don't run under on head volume and all the other things you could to squeeze a bit more out of them.
Amazing the lengths people will go to for glory. I would have a guess and say mods like this must be carried out by driver and builder in cahoots and there is more than likely a commercial reason for doing this in the first place.
Enjoy tkm guys and remember even with a highly machined engine to maximise the fiche it will never make up for poor driving and a good driver on a standard top quality rebuilt engine maximised to take into account the current regs will fly along.
