The email sent out referred to the large numbers attending the last meeting causing some 'concern' amongst the regular club members / parents.

It wasn't the numbers on track that we had any problem with, it was the attitude displayed by SOME of the visiting drivers / teams on and off the track. This included downright dangerous and in my view, stupid behaviour when leaving the dummy grid and entering the first few corners on the practice day, as well as after the chequered flag had been shown. This combined with loading / punting etc on the race day resulted in a somewhat different atmosphere than normally exists at Rissy.

Whilst I appreciate that the increased revenue to the club is welcome and needed, the change from a generally friendly 'club' atmosphere may result in some regulars looking elsewhere to race and be detrimental to the club in the long term. Not everyone involved in cadet racing views their driver as 'the next greatest thing' and my wallet is not large enough to cope with increased damage caused by other people's stupidity. We do this once a month, for fun, and as a family activity - but don't get me wrong, we want to be as competitive as money / time / equipment allows.

I agree that maybe more officials should be used to oversee proceedings, with harsher penalties and exclusions being enforced. From my point of view, if my lad does something intentionally stupid or dangerous, then he knows that if the club doesn't punish his behaviour, then I certainly will !! If occasionally he gets the short straw when it comes to an accidental racing incident - then so be it. In the long run, more rigid enforcement of the regulations (both regarding driving and technical issues) will result in better competition all round and any unfavourable decisions will balance themselves out in the long term.

Having said all that, I asked my lad whether he would prefer to race in a 'club' grid or with all the visiting drivers, he has chosen the latter. I take my hat off to him for not being in the slightest bit intimidated by the aggressive behaviour exhibited at the last meeting - I just hope that he doesn't stoop to the level of behaviour displayed by a minority of the visiting drivers - otherwise he will have me to deal with......
