The k98 needle has a thicker profile starting at the tip.

This weakens the mixture in the 1/4 to 3/4 throttle opening range and is supposed to give a cleaner response.

The lighter floats weaken the mixture over the entire rev range so I suspect the jets were changed to prevent the mixture becoming too weak.

The 8.5 Venturi was introduded to help the idle to 1/4 performance and enable the engine to tick over, some do some don't but all can be made to idle if you want them to.

Scrupulous cleanliness is essential for the carb to operate properly so don't leave old fuel/oil mixture to dry out in the carb as it causes gummy deposits to be left in the galleries and it can seriously affect setting up the carb and ultrasonic cleaning doesn't always shift them.
