Oh Poppa.......
Yes, clutches are steel..... as are various components in an engine and NOBODY adjusts those parts to get a better performance, do they.......? (Sarcasm, in case you don't get it).
Do you REALLY think people will not find ways to make the clutches more 'efficient' if it becomes an important part of the race.....? Remind me..... are the clutches sealed on (for example) Rotax? How about on TKMS and X30s......? The suggestion that they won't be 'tuned' is LAUGHABLE! They would be 'tuned' even if they were made of diamonds or chocolate!
The question of 'loading' is NOT a crucial part of this. Loading (let's be honest, it's NOT 'loading', it's RAMMING) occurs throughout the race: even if standing starts changed the amount or degree of 'ramming' into the first corner, that will have ZERO effect on ramming throughout the rest of the race! Preventing ramming is another matter entirely and SHOULD be penalised, heavily.... it's got s*d all to do with the clutch except for (perhaps) at most, the first 10 seconds of the race!
Even though the calibre and sensibility of the gearbox drivers tends to be higher BECAUSE they are/(tend to be) more mature, we ALWAYS had standing starts and we ALWAYS had ramming into the first and every OTHER corner! Anyone who thinks that standing starts will remove ramming clearly has never driven in a 'standing start' race at ANY serious level! Damnit, I 'rammed' in 125 GBox regularly even on Long Circuit racing...... as did half the other drivers!.... I was NO SAINT (but that DOES mean, I WAS cheating!)
By all means try it...... however, get your wallet out for the extra costs of 'tuned' clutches and new rear and front crash systems. Those of us who have been there can tell you.....
Oh..... and you think we didn't adjust the settings of the clutches on gearbox karts to improve our 'starts'........? (more sarcasm).
