We have 3 direct drive JTKM engines. Two are old crank case (series 3 and 5) with CNC barrels. One is TAG crank case (series 6) with a cast barrel. I don't see much real difference on track between any of our engines. All lap within 2-3 tenths of each other, and on a good day within a couple of tenths of race leader. I do see variation, however, when an engine is post rebuild, or in need of one. Apply this across a grid, with different chassis, set up, carb settings, bent bits, and driver skill / experience / mind set on the day, it's no surprise there are some differences in lap times.
The other factor to keep in mind is that there are probably more older, bent or needing attention parts on a TKM grid than a Rotax one. Not quite as bad a a 210 grid though!
