Fair comment Brian, but if you're a competent 2 stroke mechanic, and I'm guessing abarth595 is more than competent from his posts to date, TKMs can be a lot cheaper to run than Rotax, even if you are doing the rebuilds every 8 hours.
Typical parts costs for an "interim" 8 hour rebuild for my TKMs are in the £30 - £50 region. At 16 hours I will possibly go up in bore size, but even with a new piston, little end and big end bearings it's pretty rare that more than £200 worth of parts are needed. In general it's closer to £100. Best bit is that if I want to dive in and check how the big end (or anything else) is getting on between rebuilds it's a 10 minute job.
Even if you weren't confident that you could do the bigger rebuilds yourself, I reckon you'd still save money.
