Fair comment Brian, but if you're a competent 2 stroke mechanic, and I'm guessing abarth595 is more than competent from his posts to date, TKMs can be a lot cheaper to run than Rotax, even if you are doing the rebuilds every 8 hours.

Typical parts costs for an "interim" 8 hour rebuild for my TKMs are in the Ł30 - Ł50 region. At 16 hours I will possibly go up in bore size, but even with a new piston, little end and big end bearings it's pretty rare that more than Ł200 worth of parts are needed. In general it's closer to Ł100. Best bit is that if I want to dive in and check how the big end (or anything else) is getting on between rebuilds it's a 10 minute job.

Even if you weren't confident that you could do the bigger rebuilds yourself, I reckon you'd still save money.
