Use 8.5 and the set up Zatharos quotes.
The only difference is in one of the two tiny holes in the bottom of the ventury. This affects the amount of fuel injected under accelaration; the larger 12.5 hole tends to be too much for minimax.
The size of the main hole through the ventury is the same on 12.5 to 8.5.
Also run the needle clip in position one - the top grouve or P2, in mini you shouldn't need P3,4 or 5 - the bottom grouve.
pilot jet screw out 3 - 5 turns.
Don't forget the carb restrictor and the rubber seal under the carb cap - MSA rules.
Pre 2004 carbs are best as they were hand built, after that mass produced. But carb assembly and cleanliness is more important.
I think 1998 is the oldest carb you are allowed to use.
We have a very good 2001 8.5 with a pedigree, we won many races, lap records and a championship with it. Before that it won at FKS and other club champs. We are in Junior now and maybe going to senior, so don't really use it now as 12.5 is better. Could still be useful for tight twisty circuits.
You don't need loads of carbs, find a good one and use that all the time.
