In 2011 there was that "week 28/29" batch of tyres that were a bit harder, and lasted ages. Everyone whinged about that too.
I'm wearing them out faster too, but would attribute some of it to small setup changes that have allowed me to exploit the extra grip available, and consequently run with higher tyre pressures. I'm running wider at the back, narrower at the front, and in general a stiffer setup than when the tyres came out. I'm also running a bit more tyre pressure than I did back then, and have (all too slowly) adapted my driving style to suit sticky tyres.
I'm tending to save a set of tyres for the last heat and the final of race meetings now, so that even at their 3rd meeting they only have 60 odd laps on them for the start of the final. Since we've had a few wet meetings this year I'll quite possibly manage to finish the year having bought 2 sets of slicks and 2 sets of wets. It's acceptable to me, but I too would be happy if they progressively hardened the compound. As long as they can keep the playing field fairly level while they are doing it of course. And weather the complaints about it...
