So there we were, sat on the libre grid with the Honda cadets for the first heat of the day after qualifying 13th out 16 (14 Hondas and 2 IAMEs). This we were quite pleased with after qualifying dead last last month by some margin, he's only 8. All the Hondas are sat with their engines running, warming up nicely. Myself and the other IAME dad are crouched anxiously with hands poised on the starter cord. The marshal at the front of the grid puts his hand to his ear listening intently over of the drone of 4-stokes, turns around and signals to the front karts to head out out on track. As the Hondas head out we IAME dads start pulling away frantically, our competitor fires up and and off he goes following the pack. Me however, I felt something snap and the pull cord become very loose. I've felt this feeling before and in my minds eye can see into the pull cord assembly and know exactly what's happened, the plastic lugs have snapped off. I also know that there is nothing I can do sat on the grid so we head back to the team garage, a disappointed boy and an equally disappointed old man to put the spare pull cord assembly on.
We did make the rest of the heats and finished the day 12th so we came away happy in the end.
However Monday morning whilst taking a shower and reflecting on our weekend I had a thought, maybe a stupid one which I'm sure I'm about to find out on this forum very soon but a thought nonetheless. With an empty grid in front of me and run up that would have had Usain Bolt looking over his shoulder, could I have bump started the little 2-stroke beast?
Okay, your turn, what do you think?
