Don't lose sight over the fact that the chain length determines the position of the engine. The longer the chain the further forward the engine. I absolutely agree with erring towards the longer chain as this provides better purchase on the drive sprocket but, as always with a racing kart, it's the overall package which determines how quick you are. So look for the compromise on balance, performance and reliability.
