So reading through the many posts the general consensus is to save karting we need:

No arks - how do we know new drivers know basics such as 'what a red flag means' ?

No medicals - how do we know older drivers have reasonable eyesight etc?

No restrictions on helmets - bicycle helmet anybody?

No restrictions on overalls - boiler suits ?

Each circuit should be able to set it's own rules, but we need a website to tell us what each circuit's rules are - That sounds like chaos.

COC's at club level should be able to exclude people as they see fit with no discussion. - That's one of the things we normally complain about on here. Mysterious exclusions that allow the local favourite to win.

I'd be the first to admit there's plenty of room for improvement, but be careful what you wish for. How would you feel if you or your child was put in hospital by another driver who was registered blind and signed on to race because there was no requirement for a medical ?

Think I'm being silly? Blackpool used to have a car and motorcycle sprint along the seafront every year until a young lad on a motorbike rode past the finish line and hit a wall flat out killing himself. Post accident investigation discovered he was registered blind but because there was no medical requirements he signed on and away he went. That was the last year the local council allowed the event to take place.

Most on here are reasonably experienced and responsible, but some people really do need protecting from themselves. A set of nationwide, standardised rules start to ensure that.
