With respect, I read some comments with muse.
We have competed at top level, yearly, for almost 9yrs...
Most around us have greater surplus funds, many had similar....I don't beleive any had less...
However...
We choose to go-kart at best level possible, therefore we didn't do yearly/twice yearly holidays, we didn't go out regularly on the lash/food etc, we don't smoke, we didn't spend on the house ie; new TV's, sofas, conservatories, extensions etc....we didn't do fancy new fashion wether clothing or jewelry...but all this was OUR CHOICE in enabling my boy to compete with the best at top level... there were times we slept in a large car with the seats down and black bin bags on the windows, my boy thought it was great....
There were lots of other things WE DID NOT DO because our choice was the sport we love !
My boy is now number 3 in the UK in Senior Rotax...
I ain't got a pot to p**s in, nothing much has changed other than a little support given in recognition for my sons ability...
I regularly " work " for other parents spannering/coaching their child, again to help continue support my boy...
Plus...I may dislike some within our sport but love the sport itself and like to think I'm in it for the kids and to avail them of our own experience and knowledge....
The above ain't a rant, it's not a heart pull....just a realistic view of how its been for us...I cringe at people bemoaning about having to be " wealthy " to compete at the top and against the best !
Rubbish !
