Just to clarify some points
The blue top 98.17cc 21.2 Hp Iame box figures The green top 119.09cc 24.1 Hp Iame box figures
Now let’s compare two race engines on a dyno using the same carb, ignition, loom, battery, exhaust, gear ratios, fuel, and accelerated mass on the same day 30mins apart. (Please note that the figures of HP FT/LB are not important but the comparison between them are)
Blue top championship winning engine 174 kg driver min. 84kg BLUE TAB 21/ 3 Results:23.38HP 9.98 FT/LB But a driver of larger mass would only have the same restrictor hence 194 kg driver min. 104kg BLUE TAB 21 / 3 Results:23.38HP 9.98 FT/LB Green top mid range engine 4 hours old 174kg driver min. 80kg SILVER TAB M Result: 24.643HP 11.18 FT/LB 194kg driver min. 104kg BLUE TAB 21 / 3 Results: 27.59HP 11.68 FT/LB
Now let’s translate that into on track testing of the same engines at MBKC 3 Sisters track. On the same day, driver, tyres, fuel and weight 175.5kg 10 laps blue top 10 laps green top 10 laps blue top 10 laps green top. Top speed blue 76mph gps 45.35 & 45.55 Top speed green 74mph gps 44.9 & 45.10 4 tenths advantage on the day all from corner exit speed not top end.
The results speak for themselves the 52mm crank over the 50mm crank will always product more torques and 119cc will always produce more HP. Now you have to say that when the engine was introduced it was ran by older un-fitter heavier drivers, now you have larger youths that are stronger fitter faster on them making a lot of dads and competitors on blue tops disenchanted with the class and moving on to Rotax /TKM. With the exception of a few, we in blue are all mid pack racers and therefore the majority race each other in the mid pack and have great fun in doing so, but in the mid pack if you arrive on the back of a green top on a blue top it is like a mobile road block out of each corner. If you watch Rotax, TKM and yes even Honda mid pack runners they do not seem to suffer from a design characteristic difference as do we in blue, as they ALL use the SAME model of engine. Now before you faster lads have a go, remember if it was not for us the majority racing mid pack and at the back, you would not have a grid to race against nor a viable class.
