Hi Richard,
Had this problem many a time. As John says, drill them out, but be careful and use a slow drill setting. You want a 1.5mm drill bit just large enough to remove the screw heads from the thread below, but without drilling into the plastic. Once they're off you "should" be able to unscrew them with a fine tipped pair of pliars as you'll have about a mm of thread exposed.
I would definitely not punch them though.
