The barrels now have CNC machined ports in the liners as opposed to the old style which had cast ports in the liners. This means that the port timing tolerance of the new liners falls within a tighter band than the cast liners.

There has been no change to the allowable timing but with the new barrels the port timing is very consistent from barrel to barrel and you are very unlikely to get a poor performing barrel - whereas with the cast liners there was more chance of getting a "bad" barrel.

That said, a good old style barrel is as good as a good new barrel.
