I've been buying Karting Magazine since August 1982 and I completely concur with Dave [QOT]. In the last 30 years, the magazine has rarely, if ever, spoken critically [negatively ?] about a manufacturer or retailer or their products... I imagine for fear of loosing their advertising. This is more an indictment of the bully-boy tactics of the commercial factions of the sport rather than the mag, which as has been said is a small affair run by enthusiasts.
Martin Hines of Zip Kart had a major falling out with Karting Magazine in the 1970s over something written about him in the publication and he flexed his [at the time not inconsiderable] muscle and established Kart and SuperKart. Hines also refused to advertise in Karting Magazine during this period. It doesn't need a genius to figure out what his objective was. This wasn't lost on the Burgess clan [who run the mag still]. Hines has since reconciled with them, but the event acts as an illustration of what's in store for those who say things that the people running these commercial concerns don't like to hear !
While were talking about Karting Magazine, I have to commend Mary Horley for the latest revamp. I think the layout is the best it's ever been and she's added a fantastic breath of fresh air to the publication. I'm sure if she really did have a free hand unconstrained by the karting industry, the magazine would have the kinds of things suggested by those on the thread here.
