its very difficult to be honest....the only way to ensure you got something good would maybe look to try before you buy!? maybe hire it for the weekend and if you buy it then they knock price of hire off asking price. Some engine tuners maybe willing to do this if they have engines to sell at time of asking or maybe you could negotiaite similar kind of deal with private seller as well if they were willing...
