It has no effect on the battery discharge but any voltage drop in the wiring loom reflects in the actual voltage that is applied to the plug.

The battery voltage is multiplied from 12 to say 35000 volts via the coil windings.

At that ratio, you can see that even saving 1/4 volt drop will have a big effect on the coil voltage.

Saves buying a green coil!

The loom is designed to accomodate several configurations and is too long for best efficiency.

If you could also bypass the positive wiring and mount the swtches at the back, you would gain even more.
