well in caterham racing on circuits they made drivers do it by awarding them 50 championship points if they did it.....basically unless you ran away with the championship theres no way you could afford NOT to marshal for a meeting. worked really well, drivers got a better idea about what marshals do and need from drivers and likewise marshals got a better idea about a drivers point of view....also the drivers i was posted with learnt a lot by watching other classes racing...one particular driver went away and knocked a second of his pb lap time the week later because hed been taking completely the wrong line into a corner and hadnt realised until he was stood on the corner marshalling!
interestingly enough just watching touring car and Ted Cravitz from itv f1 is marshalling at thruxton today!
