Yes of course, travelling and coaching is not cheap, although we already get free transport to most competitions, there are no entry fees and my sons coach is a current French champion (who also happens to be a Brit bizarrely) Then once you get to a competition you don't often get beaten by somebody else because they have parts selected running shoes or because they can get away with cutting corners or tripping you up for that matter.
We've done high level karting and it's great, if you can afford it, the equivalent athletics events are dead boring for me, so now I've just been drooling over a new enduro bike for my own high octane entertainment, things coming full circle.
But my son will now chose athletics over karting when they clash simply because he knows, win or lose it's down to him alone and not my contacts or wallet. He has well and truly seen the light, I'm actually more proud of that sentiment than I was of all the championship wins he had in a kart.
