Re the wires, Find the break in the wire (if there is one then) You should be able to do this with a simple circuit tester if you cannot feel it with your finger nail, then get a auto electricion to cut where the break is and join a piece on without soldering. My man had some really good connectors for re-joining the wires together. re the tickover this is not important as long as the butterfly is marginally open. Suggest you have a look at someone elses carb in the class with a direct drive engine. All mine the screw is only just touching the spindle mechanism. All adjustments should be made at the carb not the cable except full throttle should be adjusted so as the butterfly is fully open it stops hard against the pedal stop so not to strain the spindle mechanism.
