That's slightly different Colin in that damp start was sprayed directly into the air intake and being highly volatile, it exploded easily thus helping the engine to start. However, long term use caused damage to the tips of diesel injectors which made them more difficult to start hence the engine becoming 'addicted' to damp start.
Perhaps I should try some on the wife...
