Ian is somewhat correct when it's in a HT environment.(Experience of years, lots of years!)

It attract dirt when left on and the dirt conducts at the already low resistance points and the WD40 burns and leaves carbon track paths which accumulate, the more you apply.

You can end up with little aurora borealis displays in the dark which is quite pretty but no good for getting your sparks on to the end of your plug tips.

It's ok in LT environments.
