i give my kart a full prep the week before a race meeting, then between every session, just do a quick bolt check to make sure seat stays are bolted onto the seat tight enough, wheel nuts are tight, rear hubs havent slipped, bearing carrier nuts are tight, grub screws on rear axle are tight, engine mounts are tight, then refuel and go again...its a quick 5 minute check. then every night after practice has finished, again just go over the kart from front to back to make sure everything is where it should be, tyre pressures are ok etc...nothing too taxing, but its suprising how many things can rattle loose during the day and its better to pick them up before racing starts!! ive never had to rebuild carbs etc during a race day but they can occasionally fail and need rebuilding, same goes for brakes, they can need bleeding sometimes, especially after a hot day during the summer if the fluid boils, also make sure you check the gap between pads and brake disk, you dont want it too close, about 2mm or so, but they will wear especially on a hot weekend, so keep a check on it and replace or add shims when necessary, again this wont need doing that often, ive only done it twice in 2 years.
