I believe ALL my answers are very good ones!

Alex.... you've asked the question 'how long is a piece of string?'. Yes... you've worded it differently but it's the same question.

In reality, the cost depends on YOU!

The answer from RoadRat is a bit jaundiced, to put it mildly. It really depends on what you WANT from karting. Those people who think of karting as a stepping stone to Formula 1 or ANY 'car' racing tend to end up disappointed if they don't have GIGANTIC budgets. Even then, most of them end up disappointed.... they may have the money...... but no skill whatsoever!

Karting MAY be a stepping-stone for the super rich into Motor-racing for ONE OR TWO PEOPLE..... in exactly the same ay that Table Tennis MAY be a stepping stone into Wimbledon..... and about as RARE!

If you keep REALISTIC ideas about your future and you want to race karts FOR FUN...... then karting can be VERYT cheap..... or expensive..... the choice is YOURS as to HOW expensive.

Your best bet is to go along to some races and WATCH and ASK. You'll see some people arriving with 50ft long Motorhomes and others (including ourselves on occasions) arriving with a TKM strapped to the roof of a Fiat 500! Yes..... the money you spend CAN influence your speed...... BUT.... you'll find that there are PLENTY of winners who are NOT spending the largest sums of money. Skill, thought and experience can easily beat most 'wallets'.

You can be CERTAIN that you will spend more than you intended to on karting. Many people end up spending just BEYOND what they can afford..... no matter WHAT their limit! So long as you keep your goals realistic.... you will ENJOY your karting. It's those un-realistic expectation that makes people NOT enjoy it!

If you still think it's your 'stairway to the stars'.... you'll be in good company..... and you will be disappointed amongst LOADS of other like-minded people. The rest of us will be having FUN.... R*A*C*I*N*G!

Ian
