The barrels aren't numbered, it's only the crankases.

As everything (with exception of clutches) are interchangeable on any age of DD engine, you could put a brand new CNC'd barrel on the oldest crankcase and use either a Motoplat or PVL.

That could be called a 1 series engine if you were to consider the crankases as defining it's age or it could be called a 6 series engine if you were to consider the barrel as defining it's age.
