Ste, if you need to run an engine in you either do the Saturday practise session or do a weekday session. The idea is you keep the format the same as it is but you just allow a little set up time on the Sunday morning for those that can only afford (either financially or time or both) to do just a Sunday race.
Adam - If you have done enough testing you should only need two practise sessions to get the kart set up. You yourself said that you pretty much use the same settings for every dry meeting and every wet meeting and just tweek the tyre pressures according to the day.
The idea is that if you want extra practise then you go to the Saturday practise session but if you are happy with just doing a single race day then two practise sessions would allow you to set the kart up for that day. 3 laps isn't enough but two 8-10 laps should be more than enough for your average racer to set the kart up according to the track conditions.
Chris.
