Yes, the light shows where the petals try to overlap the spines. I measured the gap between the petals and it's 2mm, so with a 3.5mm spine it only overlaps by 0.75 of a mm either side, not a lot and thats where I can see the light coming through. Putting the petals onto the old block gives a much better coverage, twice as much in fact as it gives 1.5mm overlap each side and hence a lot less light is visible. I'm going to re-use my old block and see how it goes, visually it looks like a better seal to me despite the gold block supposedly being better. Testing will reveal all.
