Surely it is advantageous to keep the charge in the crankcase and not be blowing anything back out of the block. Even if it is only 1/10th of a percent, that will have an effect over 14,000 strokes per minute. Reed seal is shown a lot of attention on race motorcycles so it must be of some benefit.
