A legal one!
Seriously if you read all the hype that is written about must have barrels etc Hype is a large proportion of what is written. Just because a barrell was made in any other year than 09 or 10 does not make it useless just as an 09 or 10 barrell may not be the best. Tre that since the introduction of CNC produced barrells in 09 they have been more consistant but not neccarceraly any better than any other early one. Some say 04 & 07 are good however it is also true that some 04 & 07 are poor. Unfortunately there is no definitive answer to your question, the only way you will know if a motor is good is on the track, even the dyno can be misleading. Therefor you are left with the option of running what you have back to back with another motor to see if it is better or indeed worse. All that said, there is not a huge rage in performance between a 'good' and a 'bad' motor as there is often more in the pilot! also a motor with good bottom end power may be more suited to certain tracks like Rye and seen as a 'good' motor especially in 177 but this will probably be listed as a 'bad' motor at a faster venue such as Wigan.
