Chris
I tried speaking to Talko about restrictors earlier in the year and received a similar response as you.
Scott's view on the black restrictors is that they 'leap' out the corners and mean that he loses any run he had on them out of the corner.
I think that the problem with the restrictors is that its calculated on the power to weight ratio and doesn't take into account the difference in cornering performance between a lighter and heavier outfit. Last year the bands had been tweaked over time and were fairly well balanced, so I'm told.
This year those calculations have been thrown out with the introduction of the grippier tyres. On the older tyres although a lighter driver had to brake and accelerate less weight it was balanced out as the heavier driver created more grip. This year the lighter drivers have plenty of grip and the heavier ones are now struggling to lose it and bogging down.
I'm not saying we'd expect to be running up the front if the restrictors were changed because I don't think that's the case, and I do appreciate that different tracks and conditions will affect the results, but it would be nice to know that Talko had backed to backed them on track and that they were broadly in line.
I know of one top super one driver who has backed to backed gold, blue and purple and he doesn't use purple, even in the wet.
We recently dropped from 148(unrestricted) to 142(purple) and found about 3 tenths. Going back to unrestricted in the wet has also proved slower.
Regards
Tony
